Creating a serene, green alfresco space provides an extra room for entertaining guests and a functional adjunct to your garden. The team at Transforming Gardens recently renovated a Gold Coast garden and turned a lawn area into an outdoor entertaining and relaxation space, that oozes sophistication and style.

The brief for the project was to extend the small portico area and create an informal dining and seating area, to meet the homeowners lifestyle and space needs. The existing lawn and decking area was creating a maintenance nightmare and there was a change in levels from the portico to this area, which was a design flaw that needed rectification (see Before photo below).

The new patio was raised to meet the existing one, extended by 40 square meters, tiled and a hardwood pergola built, to provide shade and shelter from the weather (see below). The cane suites, reupholstered and painted, now sit on an area which was once grass and the patio interfaces with the sub tropical foliage, extending the indoor space outdoors.

The garden was re designed and a plant palette of heliconias, bromeliads, alternanthera and xanadus used to create a theme of enduring elegance and luxuriance. Attention to detail was paramount and the use of design elements and focal points turned the area into a stunning alfresco space.

Outdoor lighting and the use of strategically placed water features has turned the garden into an exotic nightspace, which is functional, stylish and regularly used by the family for informal and formal entertaining.
