Cool crisp mornings and sunny days are evocative of this time of year, but there is still plenty to do in the winter garden. The growth is slowing down, but winter solstice is a matter of weeks away, which heralds longer days and a reminder that spring is getting closer. We gave our Bougainvillea its last haircut recently and now it is a flush of colour and adds vibrancy to the winter garden. These plants are most floriferous during the winter and are a bonus to ny landscape. During the summer, this plant grows like a Triffid, so it is nice to have some respite from pruning duty.
Winter is a great time to look at planning your spring renovations. On those cold mornings, before you get outside, jump on the Internet and research new plant varieties and plan your new garden layout. Our team are happy to assist at this stage of the design process and can walk around the garden and draw up a simple ‘mud map’, or develop a more formalised landscape plan, that can be a catalyst for your garden implementation . An added bonus, is at this time of year you can gauge where the sun is at its lowest point and pinpoint the shady parts of the garden, which will assist in your plant selection.
So get outside this weekend, into your winter garden and think about ways to renovate your outdoor room. We’d love to help you formulate your ideas and provide some inspiration for your spring garden.
